Amanda Elkins

Director, Attorney

Amanda Elkins (she/her) joined Student Legal Services in September 2014. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 2010 and served as a Student Legal Services intern during law school. Amanda worked in private practice and as a judicial law clerk before returning to SLS as an attorney. She is a member of the Coralville Public Library Board of Trustees and serves as a Prisoner Advocate on the University’s Institutional Review Boards. In her free time, Amanda enjoys reading, tennis, and hiking.

Alyssa Pomponio

Assistant Director, Attorney

Alyssa Pomponio (she/her) joined Student Legal Services in May 2020. She received her law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 2012, and is admitted to practice law in Iowa, Washington, and California. Alyssa previously worked as a public defender and civil legal aid attorney in Washington state, and helped coordinate the University of Iowa’s Title IX response. She is passionate about sex worker advocacy and is trained in restorative justice and mediation. In her free time, Alyssa enjoys playing with her dog, doing ceramics, and hiking.

Aaron M. Miers

Attorney

Aaron Miers joined Student Legal Services in 2024. Prior to joining Student Legal Services, Aaron was a partner at a law firm in Iowa and Illinois where he specialized in civil litigation. Aaron graduated from Truman State University and the University of Iowa College of Law. Aaron’s international experience includes service in the Peace Corps promoting women’s rights in Togo, internship at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Kosovo, and internship at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, Belgium. Aaron is a world traveler, avid hiker, and amateur genealogist.

Rachel Berger (she/her) moved to Iowa from the U.K. in January 2019. Prior to working for Student Legal Services Rachel worked as a teacher. Rachel enjoys reading, baking, running, traveling, and exploring new places with her family.

Teri Keifer

Teri Keifer

Administrative Services Coordinator

Teri Keifer, a U of I graduate, came back to I.C. in 2014 after spending years away in exotic locales including, most recently, Missouri. During her travels, she worked as a legal editor, education policy editor, and district court clerk.  She is happy to be back in her home town with her husband and matriarchal wiener dog, near her two totally grown-up kids.

Certified Legal Interns

Each semester, SLS hosts law student interns from the University of Iowa College of Law. Interns assist SLS attorneys with intake appointments, client files, and research. Intern profiles are posted each semester on SLS social media accounts.
